I love the 70s

Maybe it's because it was the last decade before I was born, so I'll always feel like I missed out.

But is it just me, or were the 70s all kinds of awesome?

Lots of my all-time favorite movies came out in the 70s. A bunch more are just movies that I love because they're a throwback to that 70s vibe (Hello, Zodiac, nice to see you again). Check this list:

The Godfather
Star Wars
Jaws
Alien
Dawn of the Dead
Apocalypse Now
Network
All The President's Men
Aguirre, the Wrath of God
Taxi Driver

Holy crap, I'll just stop there. Is that a list of the best movies ever made or just a list of the best from that decade? I can't even tell.

Then there's the music. Serious question: with Pink Floyd and Joni Mitchell, do you actually need anything else to be considered the best decade ever?

I mean listen to some of this stuff, and if it doesn't speak to you in some way then I can't help you:

Luckily they weren't the only artists making music in that decade, cause I guess there might be one or two people somewhere who don't care for them. There was still Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, ABBA, Joy Division, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, the solo Beatles (before they turned crappy), Neil Young, James Brown, Sly & The Family Stone, The Clash, Black Sabbath, I don't feel like listing anymore.

I guess some other important stuff happened that decade too. Like my parents getting married, which paved the way for me to exist. Or a president having to resign, which I'm still undecided whether that was a good or bad thing. The point is, if I could pick one decade to live in forever, I'd go with this one. Easily. Even if I had to deal with Ashton Kutcher being my wacky friend, it'd be worth it.

What's your favorite decade and why?

I'm partial to the 90s. Probably because I grew up during that time. Though the 80s were all kinds of awesome too. (I think anyway.)

I think there were some good movies (classics) in the 70s, but there sure was a lot of crap then too. (Wait...how is that different from today? Except they don't really make classics anymore, do they?)

The 80's. Being born then makes me sentimental, but everything about the 80's makes this Gen Xer/Millenial Generation boy warm and fuzzy.

Glad you mentioned Led Zeppelin btw. I'm not the hugest fan, but I know enough to say they were the 70's the way the Beatles were the 60's.

We need to have a 70s movie marathon. I've been thinking that ever since we watched Hoosiers. Maybe we just need a Gene Hackman marathon? Either would be fine with me.

BTW before anyone calls me on it, I am well aware of the fact that Hoosiers is an 80s movie but anytime I see Gene Hackman I think of all these great films from the 70s, some of which Jake mentioned.

Hold on, you didn't mention ANYthing with Gene Hackman. You must have posted in a hurry.

Yes, Gene Hackman. One of the all-time greatest "I will watch that guy in ANYthing" guys. I should've listed The Conversation, but you were right, I was in a hurry. And Hoosiers totally has the feel of a 70s movie, with all that 50s nostalgia that people were obsessed with in that decade for some reason.

Just so you all don't think I'm a nostalgia fiend, I rank the 00s just behind the 70s, in terms of producing some of my favorite movies, music and TV shows. The 80s would probably take third.
